Be sure to pay North Star a visit in the winter, too. The 1.62-mile North Star Loop makes for a lovely ski through the Preserve. You can also walk on the outer edge of the trail with snowshoes, but walking in boots or other footwear is not permitted. Access is limited to the groomed ski loop; please don't wander off the trail. Skier parking is available in the North Lot and at South Gate. Also NOT permitted at North Star: biking on the Nordic loop and dogs.
RIVER ACCESS All river access at North Star is closed from mid-November to mid-April during Nordic skiing operations. COMMERCIAL USE/EVENTS No wintertime commercial use is permitted at North Star Nature Preserve except a permitted paragliding operation. No special events are permitted at North Star. MOOSE ENCOUNTERS Moose are unpredictable and may behave aggressively if they perceive a threat. If you encounter a moose while Nordic skiing, stay at least 100 yards (the length of a football field) away. In the event of aggressive moose behavior at North Star, Open Space and Trails may close access to the property. Please obey closure signs. |
